“I have learned much from disease which life could never
have taught me anywhere else.” Johann Wolfgang Goethe
“An unrecognised disease was gnawing
its way, unchecked, into my high flying, public relations, managing
director, drinking, smoking, goodtime life during the late 80s.
By’ 89 I was unable to ignore
it totally so I quit my 50 a day nicotine habit, aborted two
decades of birth control pills and compensated myself with a
young musician, and a hefty mortgage on a new office building.
I took a trip to New Zealand to say goodbye to the man I always thought that “one
day” I would marry and spent time in Australia to meet my natural sister
for the first time.
Guess what? It didn’t go away.
It hadn’t worked!
I did though; loving it and telling myself that I needed the money. I worked
and worked until my 7-strong staff got together and hit me with a few facts
about its affects on me.
They landed full on the chin. So, I fired them. All of them, well the ones
that didn’t quit.
At Christmas I underwent an ‘ emergency’ operation
that was to put an end to it. Guess what? It didn’t go
away though it did get an official medical name “post operative
fatigue”.
Some days I could not talk. Others I
could not walk so I taught my self to swim backstroke to feel
flexible; to move and improve.
Progress was a gift and from a quarter of a length, by the end of the summer
I exhalted in 24 glorious turns of the small pool. It felt as good as running
a marathon.
I was not only strengthening inner organs, I was regaining my determination;
my spirit.
Dr Robert Jacobs, my homeopath and guide
had told me it was essential to “give my brain at least
a year off”
It took me nearly that time to find out how that could be possible for a woman
who thought on her feet and was always one step ahead.
Even with his remedies, vitamin, & mineral supplements, the teachings from
the IChing and Sound Healing, it took time to recover, and during that transitional
time I began to explore the wonderful world of natural healing.
By the time I had acquainted myself with crystal healing, astrology and tarot,
my meagre diet of vegetables, rice and water was expanded to include minimal
fruit and an occasional fillet of fish.
Indeed my wellness was wonderful.
Much improved, I travelled to my family
in Australia for a few months of tlc.
I began to learn yoga one-to-one…had to be one-to-one because I could
still achieve so little physical movement with certainty..
The strengthening yoga enlightment has continued with me throughout the following
15 years as almost a way of life, brightening the days when I allow myself
time to embrace a few stretches and spend precious moments BEing instead of
Doing!
When I returned to London I added other
physical disciplines, with the help of American Beth Jacobson
(Feldenkreis) and German Professor Ilse Middendorf (The Perceptible
Breath) The Lord Yehudi Menuhen (toning and music therapy) Chris
James’ sacred sound (discovering my naturally beautiful
voice and the power within) before embarking upon the mysterious
and adventurous world of body therapies.
In 1993, an American living in Denmark
(Stanley Rosenberg) taught me cranio-sacral therapy and I began
to practise and teach the specially formulated craniosacral exercises.
I went on to teach in Australia, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Israel.
I had first. completed a course of anatomy, physiology and massage, receiving
an international qualification which was followed a couple of years later by
Credit in Stress Management, Manual Lymph Drainage and Teacher Status with
the International School of Sacred Sound.
I have been practising in Spain for
12 years now and many will remember Harmony Cottages and the
myriad of workshops, musical events and weekend talks for personal
development of mind, body and spirit that we enjoyed in the tranquil,
palm filled, courtyard.
When I moved to a large house I changed emphasis and concentrated on body therapies,
leading meditation groups and teaching voice and breathwork to telephone sales
personnel, thespians and StageCoach children.
I accommodated holiday guests who enjoyed therapeutic weeks of calming mind,
body and spirit.
I have moved on again and spent the last two years studying EFT, Hypnotherapy,
Regression and Past Life Therapy.
I’m fascinated, and shocked sometimes, that our past has such an influence
on our present.
Not only from our childhood & adolescence but also from previous lives & the
lives of our parents & ancestors; these accumulated emotions – fear,
anger, guilt, sorrow - affect our physical and mental well-being as well as
our spirit; our drive, our confidence, our generosity, our sense of being able
to achieve and be prosperous in all aspects of our lives.
Don´t let ruin
your life!
I can De- you...
